Building the Threads App

I came across this newsletter article about building the Threads app. It was an interesting read on some of the technology decisions and how they hit a tight schedule and handled the crazy load.

I personally am not super impressed with Threads. It seems to have missed the elements that make these types of “microblogging” apps like Twitter work well. However, it is impressive how much scale they were able to take on so quickly. Not surprisingly, much of that was solved by building on top of the Instagram foundation behind the scenes.
