Pipe Syntax in SQL
I came across a research paper from Google on issues with SQL syntax and an idea of how it can be improved upon called SQL Has Problems. We Can Fix Them: Pipe Syntax In SQL.
I’m not big on reading research papers, but I found this one pretty easy to get through. It touches on other attempts people have made to replace SQL due to known syntax issues, and why those attempts did not succeed. They propose extending the SQL syntax in a way that keeps it backward compatible but greatly improves the ability to write queries that would have otherwise been jumbled messes of sub-queries or CTEs.
I think I’m sold, but I don’t love the idea of using something called GoogleSQL.
