Standardizing AI Agent Instructions: Ending the CLAUDE.md Fragmentation
Anthropic has adopted standard instruction naming for agent instructions, supporting the broader markdown specification.
Previously, developers configuring coding agents across multiple LLMs were caught in a frustrating fragmentation loop: maintaining a proprietary CLAUDE.md even when running non-Claude models, or defining AGENTS.md and writing symlinks or redirect instructions so Claude Code would pick it up. It’s great to see Anthropic converge on a common open standard for repository-level agent instructions.
