AI Horseless Carriages

I enjoyed this essay by Pete Koomen titled AI Horseless Carriages. In it Pete, who is a GP at Y Combinator and co-founder of Optimizely, discusses his observation that many applications introducing AI (mostly focused on GenAI) are coming up with lackluster product offerings.

He speculates that we are in such early days that people are stuck in their old thinking of how software works, comparing it to when motorized vehicles first started replacing horse-drawn carriages. It’s a great article, and I definitely agree—I’m getting a bit tired of seeing an option to write or summarize text slapped onto every single app I use.
